Flagler-Palm Coast High School is excited to participate in the 15th annual Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! January 23–27, 2023. This statewide event is intended to raise awareness about the importance of reading and inspire students and families to make reading part of their daily routines.
This year's theme is "Take a Deep Dive Into Literacy—Splash Into New Worlds!" With this theme in mind, all of our students will participate in a variety of fun activities during the school day to deepen their knowledge and instill a love of reading.
FPCHS Literacy Week Activities
Daily
- Quote of the day on the morning announcements
- "Book Blind Date": Books will be wrapped in the BLC to check out, with only key phrases from the book provided on the outside (continues until Valentine's Day)
Monday, January 23
- Pop into reading: SGA provides free popcorn when you show the book you are reading
- Kahoot with books that are movies facts
- Reading scavenger hunt begins
- Make your own bookmark (BLC and outside SGA during all lunches)
Tuesday, January 24
- Tropical Tuesday: Wear your tropical attire and dress up with Dive into Literacy Goggles (look for these in your mailbox as a summary activity)
Wednesday, January 25
- Wordy Wednesday: Marine biology/environmental science vocabulary words
- Lunch Mad Libs
- Guest Speaker Lynne Matson will visit during 6th and 7th periods. Students who love reading or creative writing can Sign Up to attend the presentation.
- Social media contest: Use a social media platform to illustrate/demonstrate/depict one or more of the Wordy Wednesday vocabulary words and tag FPC, #FPCLiteracy, @educationflorida
Thursday, January 26
- Throwback Thursday: Post pictures of your favorite picture book and tag FPC, #FPCLiteracy, @educationflorida
- Dress up as your favorite literary character
Friday, January 27
- Ride the Wave: write your reading goal on a wave to be displayed
- Kahoot replay
- Drawing for Reading Scavenger Hunt
